An additional metropolitan sessions’ judge court in Dhaka on Wednesday rejected bail pleas of detained Bangladesh Nationalist Party standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, media cell convener Zahir Uddin Swapan and organising secretary Emran Saleh Prince in two cases following clashes between BNP activists and the police on October 28.

Of the three BNP leaders, Khasru and Swapan sought bail in a case filed over the murder of a police constable in Dhaka on October 28 and Prince sought bail in a case of snatching a pistol.

Judge Faisal Atiq Bin Kader of Dhaka’s first additional metropolitan sessions’ judge court rejected their bail petitions on Wednesday.

Earlier, their lawyer Syed Zainul Abedin Mesbah submitted petitions seeking their bail.

The court on Wednesday passed the order after hearing on the petitions from both the sides.

Amir Khasru and Swapan were produced before the court on November 3 after they were arrested in the case filed over the death of police constable Amirul Islam Parvez, 32, during a clash between BNP leaders and activists during the party’s grand rally in the capital.

Later, the investigation officer of the case and detective branch of police inspector Md Jahangir Alam sought a 10-day remand for them for the sake of proper investigation.

After the hearing, the court allowed the police to take them in their custody for six days for interrogation.

On November 10, the court sent them to jail after the interrogation by the police.

The BNP has been alleging that all the cases against BNP leaders and activists were false and fictitious and that the cases were lodged to harass the opposition activists and keep them away from theiur ongoing anti-government movement.
